The Writing is on the Wall books present the viewer with descriptions of naval mutinies triggered by financial hardship and images of written marks on walls. This juxtaposition presents a sense of historical repetition and simultaneously denies a sense of historical progress. That resulting tension represents the growing strain in society between the financial entities that have failed us and those who are left to pick up the pieces.
